From the design aspect, Sony seems to stand still with the sharp corners, which is always applied in its VAIO products.So far this VAIO look is still interesting in the middle of notebook products that begin to switch to without-corner-design .
13.1-inch screen is satisfactory. With LED backlight technology, the screen looks clear and sharp with good contrast levels. Horizontal viewing angle is very good, unfortunately, the vertical angle is more narrow and you must set the display positions in order to be really perfect. Thickness of this screen is only about 5mm, and you must be careful so that the thin screen is not cracked when opening or closing the notebook.
Sony VAIO VGN-Z17GN/B uses Intel Core 2 Duo P9500 2.53GHz processor with support for 4GB of DDR3 RAM. For the storage media, Sony selects a 320 GB hard disk with the speed of 5.400rpm and also provides two graphic card options: Intel GMA 4500HD and NVIDIA GeForce 9300M GS. The integrated graphic cards, Intel GMA 4500HD has 256MB of memory while the NVIDIA GeForce 9300M GS is able to use up to 1.5 GB of memory taken from the main memory.
With two graphic cards you can customize your own work patterns. If the graphic needs and requires high performance graphic card, you can use the NVIDIA graphic card and if you only want to just do the office work, Intel graphic card certainly is more than enough. More interestingly, you can switch the graphic cards without having to shut down the notebook.
Port connectivity of this notebook is also adequate. USB, ExpressCard/34, FireWire, HDMI, D-Sub, Gigabit Ethernet, and the card reader are also provided. Unfortunately, there are only two USB ports, and you must use a port replicator when you need more. Good Gear Guide is still willing to recommend a sale price US$ 3,000 although there wa a complain that it is too expensive.
